The Bible in English: Search

From the Search page, you can use the Page Toolbar to open a context-sensitive Help page and to clear the Search form.

From every page in The Bible in English you can use the Right-Hand Toolbar to consult general information about The Bible in English, to start a new search, and to access the top-level Table of Contents page.

You can access the Search page by clicking the Refine Search icon on the Page Toolbar of any of the The Bible in English pages. Your original search terms will be preserved in the Search form. You can start a fresh search by clicking on the New Search icon on the Right-Hand Toolbar.

You can search The Bible in English using a combination of the following search fields:

To perform a search enter a search term into either or both of the Keyword and Book search boxes by typing in individual words or phrases or by selecting them from a browse index. If you want to narrow your search further, you can select Versions, a Testament, a Period and/or a Search Option from the lists.

Note: You can select more than one item from the Version list. Click on the first item you want to select, then hold down the CTRL key and click on any other items you want. If you want to select a range of items that are next to each other in the list, click on the first item then hold down the SHIFT key and click on the last item. All the items in the list in between these will be selected.

In the Search page, you can combine search terms using Boolean and proximity searching and search for variations on search terms using truncation.

Note: Between search boxes, all terms are treated by default as if they were combined using the Boolean operator AND.

When you have finished making your selections, click Search. The Summary of Matches (Version) page will appear displaying the results of your search.
