Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare: Full Text Display

A number of standard display formats have been used in the Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare Full Text:

All headings are centred.
All unhighlighted verse is displayed as standard roman. Italic highlights appear as italic. Gothic script appears in italics.
Page numbers are displayed in square brackets.
Prose lines are separated by a forward-slash ('/').
Line indents reflect the indents in the copy text. Runover metrical lines are not indented since line length can vary depending on the size of the browser window.
Caesurae are marked by '/' and lacunae (i.e. gaps in the copy text) are marked by '[.....]'. Illegible text is represented by '[illeg.]'.
The position of figures, tables, cross-references and notes including authorial notes and notes supplied by the database editors are indicated by icons.
While all standard European accents are displayed, some unusual diacritics (for example, transliterated Arabic and Irish) cannot be displayed.
The old Middle English thorn and eth are displayed as þ and ð.
Macrons (bars), breves and bars representing contractions or omissions of 'm' or 'n' are not displayed.
No attempt has been made to capture unusual manuscript letter forms for which typographical equivalents were created in nineteenth and early twentieth-century printed editions of early texts.
Greek is transliterated and in bold.
