Early English Prose Fiction: Search Fields

You can search Early English Prose Fiction by the following fields:

Keyword

From the Search page, you can use the Keyword field to search for any word or phrase contained within a document. To enter terms into the search box:

For example:
Keyword: puritan
Keyword: queen elizabeth

When searching in the Keyword field, you can use truncation to retrieve documents containing variations on a term. If you choose to search for more than one term, you can also combine them using Boolean and proximity searching.

Title

From the Search page, you can use the Title field to search for any word or phrase contained in the title of a work. To enter terms in the Title search box:

For example:
Title: arcadia

When searching in the Title field, you can use truncation to retrieve documents containing variations on a term. If you choose to search for more than one term, you can also combine them using Boolean and proximity searching.

Author

From the Search page, you can limit a search to works by a particular author or authors. To enter terms in the Author search box:

For example:
Author: bunyan

When searching in the Author field, you can use truncation to retrieve works by authors with a common or similar name. If you choose to search for more than one author, you can also combine them using Boolean searching.

Gender

You can limit a search to works written by either female or male authors.

To restrict your search to a gender, select the required term from the Gender drop-down list. The default setting is 'Female and Male Authors'.

Publication Date

You can limit a search to works published in a particular year or during a range of years. The default values appearing in the search boxes represent the earliest and most recent years relevant to the Early English Prose Fiction database.
