Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare: Table of Contents

From the Table of Contents page, you can use the Page Toolbar to open a context-sensitive Help page and to refine your original search.

From every page in Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare you can use the Right-Hand Toolbar to consult general information about Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare, to start a new search, and to access the top-level Table of Contents page.

There are three ways to access the Table of Contents page. You can:

Right-Hand Toolbar Table of Contents iconclick the Table of Contents icon from the Right-Hand Toolbar on any page. This will take you to the top-level Table of Contents page which consists of the different categories into which the texts have been placed, such as Editions or Adaptations. You should select a category, which will expand to a list of all the editions, for example. Finally you are presented with a Table of Contents at volume level for the selected edition or adaptation.
Small Table of Contents iconclick the Table of Contents icon corresponding to a particular entry in the Summary of Matches (Edition) page or the Summary of Matches (Play/Poem) page. This will take you directly to the Table of Contents, expanded to the level of the relevant item.
Page Toolbar Table of Contents iconclick the Context icon on the Page Toolbar of the Full Text page. This will take you directly to the Table of Contents page, expanded to the level of the Full Text entry.

The Table of Contents page allows you to browse through the contents of all the works contained in Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare and look at their structure. For example, you may wish to browse the works of a particular author, or look at the original context of the play you are currently viewing.

The various levels of heading are represented in the Table of Contents by branches which can be expanded or collapsed. Navigation within the Table of Contents is by means of the icons expand icon and collapse icon which indicate whether you can expand or collapse a branch to change the level of detail displayed.

Each of the branches in the Table of Contents is hyperlinked to the Full Text of the corresponding item. The title of each item is followed by the download size in bytes of the corresponding Full Text page. The larger the download size of an item, the longer the Full Text page will take to download.

The order of the Table of Contents is the same as the order of the Full Text. Editions are arranged chronologically, and the contents of the editions themselves follow their copy texts in structure and order so that headings and divisions within the copy text are preserved. Each play is then broken down into subdivisions reflecting the structure of the original work.

The original quarto texts are ordered by play chronologically. The Apocrypha and Sequels section includes the Third Folio followed by apocrypha, sequels, and associated materials. Bell's Acting Edition follows its copy text in structure and order. Finally, the adaptations are ordered alphabetically by source play.
