American Poetry: Search Options

You can limit your search to particular elements of the data contained in American Poetry by selecting items from the Search Options drop-down lists on the Search Page.

The first set of Search Options applies to the whole database:

• Poems Only: restricts the results of your search to poems only.
• Rhymed Poems Only: restricts the results of your search to rhymed poems only.
• Unrhymed Poems Only: restricts the results of your search to unrhymed poems only.
• All Database: retrieves hits in all areas of the database including front matter, introductory material and back matter. Note: This option searches at the level of the volume. It is not recommended to use this option in conjunction with the Poet field as poets whose works are contained within volumes attributed to other authors or editors will not be found.

The second set of Search Options applies to Keyword searches:

• Including Notes: searches for occurrences of your search term(s) in notes as well as Full Text.
• Excluding Notes: searches for occurrences of your search term(s) only in Full Text.
• Notes Only: searches for occurrences of your search term(s) only in notes.
• Arguments Only: searches for occurrences of your search term(s) only in arguments.
• Epigraphs Only: searches for occurrences of your search term(s) only in epigraphs.
• Dedications Only: searches for occurrences of your search term(s) only in dedications.

The options selected by default are Poems Only and Including Notes.
