American Drama: Full Text
Display
A number of standard display formats have
been used in the American Drama Full Text:
- All headings are centered and in bold.
Headings supplied editorially, usually taken from the play's first line, are displayed in [
].
- The full form of the speakers' names are displayed in [ ] after the version of the name that appears in the body of the text.
- All unhighlighted text is displayed as
standard roman. Italic highlights appear as italic (as do roman highlights in text which
was italic in copy text). Small capitals are displayed in bold. Signatures giving the
author and/or place and/or date of composition at the beginning or end of an element are
displayed centered. Page numbers are displayed in square brackets.
- Line indents reflect the indents in the copy
text. Runover metrical lines are not indented since line length can vary depending on the
size of the browser window.
- Lacunae (i.e. gaps in the copy text) are
marked by '[.....]'.
- The position of figures,
tables and notes,
including authorial notes and notes supplied by the database editors are indicated by
icons.
- Greek is transliterated and in bold.
